SPORTS NUTRITION

Whether you are a power athlete, or you are an avid gym buff, your nutrition is crucial. You may think you eat well and you might believe you are getting the right nutrients to keep your body in tip-top performance mode but chances are good that you might be missing some key elements. That is where a sports nutritionist comes in.

What Do Sports Nutritionists Do?

We all know healthy food is important. But proper nutrition is a vital component for athletes in any category but especially those in strength or endurance sports. A sports nutritionist will advise you on the best nutritional regimen to allow for optimum performance. Sports nutritionists, like me, understand the positive and negative effects that food can have on the human body. We do not just study the effects of food, we examine the types of food and food quantities that should be consumed by an athlete. We also look at your fluid intake to ensure you are properly hydrated – regardless of sport.

Ensuring your muscle, tissue, and joints stay in good health has a lot to do with what you feed your body, and when. Together, we will work together to come up with meal plans that perfectly balance your intake of carbs, fats, proteins, and sugars through nutritional counseling.

Tasks for Sports Dietitians

Clients often ask, “can I do this myself without your help?” Honestly, the truth is, yes, you can but it might not be wise to do so. Sports nutrition is a mixture of art and science. Sometimes athletes need more supervision when it comes to their diet. Other times they just need more support. Sports dietitians, like me, work with athletes, like you, on the foods that make up their diet – and there is a lot that goes into that. Sports nutritionists factor in your body type, training schedule and routing, and we also want to know your athletic goals. Our work is complicated because as a sports dietitian, I must work on an athlete’s desired peak of physical conditioning and much of that comes with your food intake.

Using a Nutritionist for Optimum Performance

It’s important to remember that peak physical health – inside and out – is a marathon, not a race. Before getting started with a sports nutritionist, it’s important to know what your goals are. Some of your goals can be thought through while we are in session but having a starter set is ideal. Think of the goals you want to set, and how attainable those goals are. This is a journey and we are partners along this journey. We are in this together for the long-haul. With me, you won’t just receive support, you will receive guidance through every step.

I’ll be here to cheer you on from the start and we’ll celebrate each victory together. Are you ready to start your journey? Use the form below to get started or start asking questions.
